Meet The Team: Jose Dominguez

In order to make the best possible Virtual Reality experience, you need a team full of experts. From artists, to game designers, to system developers – everyone comes together to create something truly unique and inspiring.

In this series we’re going to open the doors to Midow Studios and invite you to get to know some of the amazing creatives that are working on our currently unannounced VR project. Furthering our focus on the people behind Discovery of Magic’s amazing visuals, today we talk to the other half of our game art team, Jose Dominguez:

Hi, Jose! Tell us what you do here at Midow Studios.

Here we go! I’m a 3D Game Artist and in general, at Midow Studios doing a bit of everything, from environments, assets, lighting… to creating concept art, vfx and animations.

Being an indie studio means having to be able to adapt to people’s needs and that means knowing how to work in different disciplines depending on what the game requires. This is what I like most about working in an indie studio, it’s a super exciting experience that you never know where it’s going to take you, it’s impossible to get bored!

How long have you worked at Midow Studios, and what did you do before this?

I have been working at Midow Studios for almost 3 months now, starting in the first quarter of 2025. Before that, I worked in different sectors and different game studios from indies to AA. Among the most important jobs are being the lead artist of a US startup dedicated to the metaverse in which I got to meet people from Disney, Netflix, Blizzard and Spotify among many others.

In videogame studios I spent most of my time working as a freelancer for different studios and among the most important is Sega Japan, where I was working on a remake of a well-known IP in Japan.

What most excites you about the game we’re working on?

As a 3D Artist, I get to work on all the artistic parts of the game. I love fantasy and magic, and I have never worked in VR before. Being able to create things knowing that players will be able to interact with them is very rewarding.

What are some of your favourite video games?

I love video games and have played them all my life. I started playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time when I was 3 years old. For a long time it was one of my favourite games, although now that I have played many games of different genres, I try not to get carried away by nostalgia and I could tell you that Persona 5 is one of my favourites along with the very recent Expedition 33.

I have evolved over the years, but I think I’ve always been a big fan of narrative and jrpgs.

If you could cast a magical spell right now, what would it do?

After watching and reading Harry Potter so many times, it is clear to me that I would choose Accio. This spell is like a hack, you can ask for whatever you want, it will come to you. It’s like having a Glovo delivery man but in the palm of your hand.

Thanks so much for answering our questions, Jose, and I can’t wait to strap a headset on and see all the amazing things you’ve made in Discovery of Magic!

If you want to learn more about our upcoming VR game be sure to head over to the Discovery of Magic page. There you can see what we’re up to and sign up for email updates and our Discord Server!

We’ll see you on the next Meet The Team article, but until then — happy casting!
