In order to make the best possible Virtual Reality experience, you need a team full of experts. From artists, to game designers, to system developers – everyone comes together to create something truly unique and inspiring.
In this series we’re going to open the doors to Midow Studios and invite you to get to know some of the amazing creatives that are working on our currently unannounced VR project. And we’re kicking things off with the founder of the studio himself, CEO and Lead Developer, Ryan Camilleri:

Hi, Ryan! Tell us what you do here at Midow Studios.
Of course! I’m the Founder of Midow Studios, which means I wear a lot of hats—probably a bit too many. My background’s mostly as a game developer, but in my day to day I’m jumping between all kinds of things: creative direction, dev work, biz dev, production, you name it! It can definitely get overwhelming at times, especially with all the context switching, but when you get into a rhythm it feels euphoric. It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the progress we’re making and I wouldn’t change it for the world. To any aspiring founders out there, do not fall for the “escape the 9 to 5” myth – you’re more likely entering a 24/7. But by doing something you’re passionate about, that 24/7 does not feel like work, it feels like purpose!
How long have you worked at Midow Studios, and what did you do before this?
I started working as a solo-developer on our first prototype back in June of 2022. In 2023 I founded Midow Studios with the sole aim of securing funding and growing the team. This, coupled with game development, was especially hard to do while trying to juggle a full-time position and LIFE in general. But with a ton of discipline…and probably too much coffee, I am now thankful to be surrounded by a team of incredible individuals at Midow Studios and fully focused on the road ahead! In all this time, I was working on titles like Fanport Worlds & Taskmaster VR with Draw & Code and before that, I worked at Keen Software House, the creators of the famous Space Engineers game.

What most excites you about the game we’re working on?
Honestly, it’s such a great feeling seeing ideas you once thought of come to life, bit by bit. For me, it’s all about the journey, not just the destination. But if I had to pick one thing, it’s how much potential the game has to build a really passionate and creative community. I love the idea of people diving into the world we’re building and making it their own, coming up with stories and lore that go way beyond what we imagined.
What are some of your favourite video games?
Despite my passions for VR, I’m a huge PC strategy nerd with my favourite games of all time being Sid Meier’s Civilization V and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. Gaming has always been a huge part of my life. I still remember starting at just 3 years old, firing up my dad’s old PC and playing Finding Nemo back to back with Battlefield 1942 – VERY different games I know.
If you could cast a magical spell right now, what would it do?
Oh man… if there was a spell that can give me more hours in the day, that would be amazing. Otherwise, I overwatered a plant at home, so maybe ‘Liquidus Extractus’?
Thanks so much for answering our questions, Ryan! We’re as excited as you are to see the community blossom around our game.
